Thank you for joining us Evan. Let’s get to know you a little better. What is something fans up in the grandstands don't know about you, and what do you enjoy doing off the field?
Something fans may not know about me is that I'm pretty laid-back off the field. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, relaxing, and just being a normal teenager when I'm not focused on football.
Take us through a normal day for you and how you balance school, homework, workouts, practice and your social life.
A normal day is pretty busy. I go to workouts early in the morning, school, make sure I stay on top of my assignments, then it's straight into practice. After that, I usually finish homework and try to spend whatever free time I have with my family and relax. It can definitely be a lot to balance, but football has taught me discipline and how to manage my time.
Do you have a pregame ritual, superstition or routine that you never skip? What about a special pregame meal or snack?
Before every game, I like to get locked in mentally and listen to music. I don't really have a big superstition, but I always make sure I'm focused and prepared before stepping on the field. As far as food, I try to eat something that gives me energy without making me feel too heavy.
We've already talked with Permian running back Cayden Taylor this week, so I've got to ask two Taylor running backs playing in the same district. Any relation, or is that just a West Texas football coincidence?
No relation at all just a West Texas football coincidence! I guess there must be something about the last name Taylor and playing running back.
If you're given the locker-room speaker, what song are you banging to get the team hyped?
I'd probably put on something with a lot of energy and a good beat that gets everybody fired up and ready to compete.
Who is that one special coach through your years of playing, and what did he do or say to inspire you?
I've had several coaches who have made an impact on me throughout the years. The biggest thing they've taught me is to always work hard, stay disciplined and believe in myself even when things get tough. Having coaches who push you and believe in you can really make a difference.
What's one part of the game you have worked the hardest to improve since last season?
One thing I've worked hard on improving is becoming a more complete player. I've focused on my speed, strength, vision and understanding of the game so I can be more effective and help my team in every way possible.
Are you planning to play college ball? Any particular school you'd like to attend? Have there been any offers yet? What would you major in?
Yes, I definitely plan on continuing my football career in college. Right now, I'm focused on working hard, improving every day and keeping my options open. I would be grateful for the opportunity to play at any school that is the right fit for me academically and athletically. As far as my major, I'm still exploring what career path I want to pursue.
Those little dudes up in the stands watching and admiring you, wanting to play varsity ball and beyond what words of advice would you give them?
I would tell them to keep working and never give up on what they want. Stay disciplined, listen to your coaches and understand that success doesn't happen overnight. There will be tough days, but if you keep putting in the work, anything is possible.
Before we go, is there anything else you would like to share about yourself or the team, or any shoutouts or kudos you'd like to give?
I'm grateful for my teammates, coaches, family and everyone who continues to support me. Football is more than just an individual sport — it takes everyone working together. I'm proud to be part of this team, and we're going to continue working hard and giving everything we have every time we step on the field.
